“Collection exhibitions have been taking place in the spectacular oval hall of the Schömer House, the annexe of the Essl Museum, since 1987. The collector Agnes Essl has been curating one exhibition on a special theme every year since 1999. The exhibitions are open daily, admission free.
In the last two years the thematic focus was on painted space in architecture and the natural world. This year the focus is totally on the quintessence of painting: colour, in the interplay of form and content in image composition. It starts with the abstract paintings of the early 1960s with their intense colours. The arc then ranges from Die Neuen Wilden [the new savages] of the 1980s to the colourful tableaux of recent Austrian art.” (Text source: ESSL Museum)
