“Even though women were and still are in the majority, one often looks for any trace of them in vain, since women’s history is not marked by big events and actions. Thus this exhibition does not focus on the “exceptional woman” but on the woman next door.
“Women’s lives” is narrated using “women’s fates”. The selection of the partly real, partly imagined women reflects the broad range of possible fates; working women get a chance to speak just as much as aristocrats, townswomen, countrywomen and nuns. The time ranges from the Middle Ages to the generation of our grandmothers.” (text source: Landesmuseum Niederösterreich)
