“The exhibition (>the other view. collector and artist<), personally curated by Agnes Essl, focuses on the relationship between the woman as a collector and the woman as an artist and addresses female perspectives in the world of art as well as the question of whether and if it is possible to recognise an “other view” at all.
Purely a woman’s business?
In her more than 40 years as a collector of contemporary art Agnes Essl has particularly dedicated herself to the promotion of female artists. With the exhibition >die andere sicht < [the other view], the Essl Museum would like to present this area of the collection and in the process, show the female artists’ view of the world and the self. Is there another view, and if there is, what does it consist of? Does it manifest itself in the choice of themes, a particular selection of colour, or is this question really obsolete? Works by 30 contemporary Austrian female artists invite a discussion of this and many other perspectives.
The artists range from Maria Lassnig and Florentina Pakosta to Eva Schlegel and Valie Export and to the young generation of female artists such as Karen Holländer and Bianca Regl.
