Georg Baselitz – Das Negativ (new works)
26. Juli 2012 – 31. August 2012
Galerie Thaddeus Ropac in Salzburg is showing a series of 25 new works (oils on canvas and sculptures) by Georg Baseltz, the artist who turned his visual world upside-down in 1969. The exhibition is divided into three groups: one refers to the famous painting Portrait of my parents II (1924) by Otto Dix, the second represents a series of portraits of expressionists (Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Erich Heckel and Edvard Munch) and the third group of works is Baselitz’s reference to a series of his own Russian Paintings at the turn of 21 st century in which he caricatures the social realist phase in his early painting using the style of German Expressionism.
In VIlla Kast are also displayed artworks by Marc Quinn, Anselm Kiefer, Alex Katz, Erwin Wurm, Arnulf Reiner…
